The AORTIC 2009 conference that was held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from 11 - 14 November 2009, was a resounding success. The conference attracted over 700 delegates – the vast majority from 34 of the 52 countries in Africa. Other participants and speakers were from the USA, UK, Canada, India, Brazil, Europe and Qatar.

At the conference, we were proud to announce the election of our new President, Professor Serigne Gueye who is Professor of Urology at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop and Head of Urology at the Hopital General de Grand Yoff, in Dakar, Senegal. Professor Gueye has published in numerous scientific journals and is an active member of several committees in his field of urology.

The AORTIC Council and the membership of AORTIC are extremely proud to welcome Professor Gueye as our President. We are confident that under his guidance, AORTIC will achieve its objectives to make Cancer in Africa a priotity and to draw the attention of the authorities and decision makers to the necessity of putting Cancer firmly on the health agenda of African countries. Professor Gueye will lead AORTIC to find African solutions to African problems.
